To apply for divorce in Sweden, you and your partner need to submit a joint application to the district court. However, if you aren’t in agreement regarding the divorce, one of you can submit an individual application. The exact process of divorce depends on your unique situation, but it usually looks like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Filing for divorce<\/strong>
    You submit your application to the district court<\/a>. If you have children under the age of 16 or if you aren’t in agreement, you’ll need to undergo a reconsideration period of at least six months before the divorce is finalized.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Reconsideration period<\/strong>
    The purpose of the reconsideration period is to carefully think through whether you truly want to proceed with the divorce. If, at the end of this period, you still wish to divorce, you have to confirm it to the district court.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Final ruling<\/strong>
    When the reconsideration period is over, your divorce will be finalized. However, if no reconsideration period is required, it’ll be finalized immediately after you submit your application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
