It&#8217;s a right for the child and an obligation for you as parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paying child support means that the parent who doesn&#8217;t have the child living with them contributes financially to <a href=\"https:\/\/kliently.se\/en\/news\/alimony-maintenance-support-we-sort-out-what-is-what\/\">support the child<\/a>. This can be done, for example, by making payments directly to the parent with whom the child lives. The amount being paid is determined based on the child&#8217;s needs and the parent&#8217;s financial ability. The payments are intended to cover the child&#8217;s basic needs, such as housing, food, clothing, and recreational activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-the-amount-is-determined\">How the amount is determined<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Child support can be determined in different ways, depending on whether you as parents are in agreement or not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Through mutual agreement<\/strong><br>If you&#8217;re in agreement regarding the amount of, you can decide the amount and draw up an agreement. It&#8217;s important that the agreement is in writing and clearly describes how the payments will be made.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Through court decision<\/strong><br>If you can&#8217;t agree on the amount, a court can make the decision for you. The court will assess the child&#8217;s needs and your financial ability and then determine a fair amount.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happens-if-it-isn-t-paid\">What happens if it isn&#8217;t paid?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the parent who&#8217;s obligated to pay child support fails to do so, the other parent can contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forsakringskassan.se\/english\/parents\">Swedish Social Insurance Agency (F\u00f6rs\u00e4kringskassan)<\/a> to receive maintenance support. They will then pay a fixed amount to the child and subsequently recover the money from the obligated parent.
